Mick Brown passed away on Saturday, April 4, 2020 at Yale Saint Raphael’s Hospital in New Haven, Ct. due to COPD, and COVID-19. Mick was preceded in death by his partner Larry Firrantello, his parents Louise Engle and Wayne Brown, his sister Linda Brown, and his brother Larry Wayne.
He is survived by his brother Steve (Lydia) Ball, his sister Cindy (John) Steiger, both of Kamiah, his uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Mick was born Dec. 9, 1952 in Lewiston. He lived in Pierce until he was nine years old then moved to Kamiah through middle school. He went to high school in Lacey, Wash., graduating from Saint Martin’s High School in 1971. Mick received a full scholarship from Yale University and moved to New Haven in 1971 where he studied Classical Civilization 1971-1973, and 1980-1982. Mick loved learning and taught himself Greek. He enjoyed photographing pictures of flowers, scenery and his beloved cats Felix and Ajax. Mick sold some of his amazing pictures and often attended art shows, displaying his work and blessing us all with his gorgeous photos every day.
I also remember how he enjoyed cooking, as well as creating lovely rock and flower gardens, learning all their scientific names. He was an avid scholar with so much knowledge; he impressed us all including his teachers from a young age. The Ancient Greek aphorism “Know Thyself” was his favorite quote. We are so proud of him for the brilliant, compassionate, empathetic, and gentle soul that he was.
The last words we shared were “I love you” and a prayer at the hospital where the nurse so graciously helped me to speak to Mick and say everything I could think of to let him know how much everyone loves him and cares about him. Rest in the arms of Jesus and be at peace my sweet brother. Say hi to Mom, Daddy and Linda from us. I’m looking forward to that reunion in heaven with you, all the family and friends who have gone ahead of us. The world will never be the same without you. We miss you every day and love you so much.
