Rhonda Joy “Bunny” Barnes, 64, of Kooskia, died Dec. 1, 2019 at her home in Kooskia.
Rhonda was born in Eugene, Ore. on Nov. 13, 1955 to Edgar and Roberta Barnes. The family moved to Denver, Colo. where she was joined by her sister, Patti. She lived in Kooskia during her elementary school years, while part of her high school years she lived with her father and stepmother in Denver, where she graduated from Iver C. Ranum High School.
Rhonda spent much of her adult life living in Illinois and traveling throughout the United States for work where she made many, many lifelong friends. She returned to Kooskia to retire and be closer to her family. Rhonda was the gentle soul of the family – sweet, loving and sincere. She loved her pets, her flowers and gardens, and her hummingbirds. She loved putting up her decorations – for EVERY holiday.
Though she had no children of her own, she loved her nieces and nephews and her god-daughter, Peggy Vermillion, immensely. And her neighbors – she loved her neighbors and friends who watched out for her and cared deeply for her.
She was very active in the Rebekah Lodge and volunteered much of her time to her community and worked for the cemetery district in Kooskia.
She was preceded in death by her father, Edgar Royal Barnes, and mother, Roberta “Joy” Lee.
She is survived by her sister Patti Kelly of Grangeville, brother Doug Barnes, stepmother Christie Barnes, and stepbrother Dan Wittenburg, all of Denver, stepfather Robert Lee of Kooskia, half-sister Renita Lee of Grangeville, nine nieces and nephews and 10 great-nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held Friday, Dec. 13, at 11 a.m. at Trenary Funeral Chapel in Kooskia, followed by a potluck dinner.
