Our Father, Grandpa, Friend and “Governor of Kidder Ridge” passed away Feb. 2, 2019. He was 94.
Doyle was born in Woodland, Idaho to Gustel and Verla Pfefferkorn on Jan. 29, 1925.
He attended school in Kooskia. After leaving in his junior year, he joined the Army and served in World War II. Returning from the war, he worked at the Kamiah Mill, was a commissioner for the Kidder Ridge Road District, and farmed with his brother Gerald.
Doyle married Mary Lou Bowles on June 2, 1948. They made their home on Kidder Ridge at the Pintsize Ponderosa. They began their life together farming and raising four children: Carol, Dick, Frank, and Bobby.
Doyle enjoyed being with family and friends, always checking on the neighbors on Kidder Ridge.
Camping, fishing and exploring the backroads of Idaho were he and Mary’s pastime. Their favorite spots were Newsome Creek, Leggett Creek, El Dorado Creek, and the dredge ponds near Florence.
Some favorite memories of Doyle: He always told us he had to have his fair share, also watch your pennies and they will watch out for you. Once he went shooting squirrels in a national park with a 357 and grandma chewed him out. He always yelled out when he caught a fish, you could hear him for miles, and always being able to fix ANYTHING…with baling twine.
Doyle is survived by his children, daughter Carol (Vernon) Davis, sons Dick Pfefferkorn, Frank (Patsy) Pfefferkorn; grandchildren Daniel (Leslie) Lyons, Marty Lyons, Angela Carpenter Hibbard, Nathan (Allison) Pfefferkorn, Joshua Pfefferkorn, Jennifer (Mike) Dalin; great-grandchildren Andrew (Taylor) Lyons, Kelsey (Cory) Corder, Kristofer Carpenter, Koby Carpenter, Kya Carpenter, Sydney Pfefferkorn, Stella Pfefferkorn, Hannah Dalin, Caden Dalin; great-great-grandchildren Clayne Lyons, Chance Corder, and Lauren Corder.
Doyle was predeceased by parents, Gustel and Verla Pfefferkorn, son Bobby Pfefferkorn, wife Mary Pfefferkorn, brothers Gerald and Dorrence Pfefferkorn, sisters-in-law, Devota and Frances Pfefferkorn, brothers-in-law Edward Jr. and Berrill Bowles.
Celebration of Life and a covered dish lunch will be March 2 at 2 p.m. It will be held on Kidder Ridge at his son Dick’s house, 393 Kidder Ridge Road. Bring your memories and stories.
