Thomas Jack (Tom) Marek, 44, of Grangeville was killed Tuesday afternoon, Aug. 14, 2018 while working on his logging equipment at his home.
Tom attended his early years at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic School in Grangeville. He grew up on his family’s ranch at Slate Creek. Tom started operating equipment and driving at age 4 and always loved doing it. At age 15, he found his calling in the woods. He worked in the woods trucking and hauling logs for others, and eventually started to work for himself at the age of 18. He purchased his first truck to start Tom Marek Trucking. In April 2000, he started his own logging company, working in the woods around the Grangeville area, along with his sons and wife.
Anyone who knew Tom, knew he NEVER “worked” at all, he loved what he was doing, so it wasn’t work for him. He was very particular about what he did in life and with his equipment and trucks. He enjoyed spending time with family and being outdoors, whether it was working or playing. He loved to play a good joke on anyone.
He was preceded in death by his father Jack and brother John Marek.
Tom is survived by his loving wife, Tracy; sons Cody (Chelsea) Coppersmith, Jack Marek, Konnyr Marek, Dalton Howard, Bo (Baylee Dirk) Marek; mother Peg; brothers Bill (Katie) Marek, Jim (Carrie) Marek; niece Jaycee Marek and nephew Clay Marek; and one grandson, Daxtyn Thomas Marek.
A rosary was held August 20 at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church. Following the rosary, a graveside service was held at White Bird Cemetery.
Arrangements are under the direction of Blackmer Funeral Home of Grangeville. Send condolences to the family at Blackmerfuneralhome.com.
