Charlotte (Smith) Papineau, 73, of Kamiah passed away at home on June 25, 2018 surrounded by her family. Charlotte was recently diagnosed with esophageal cancer. With courage and strength she fought this disease to the end.
Charlotte Ann Smith was born to James and Audrey (Gilbertson) Smith on Oct. 17, 1944 in Fargo, N.D. She was baptized at Waldheim Lutheran Church, Kathryn, N.D. and confirmed in the Lutheran faith at Grace Free Lutheran Church, Wenatchee, Wash. in 1959.
Charlotte and Fred Papineau met in 2002. They were married in Lewiston, Idaho on Sept. 11, 2006 and made their home in Kamiah.
Extremely gifted with needle and thread, Charlotte enjoyed the fine arts of hand-embroidery. Sewing, quilting, woodworking, and gardening were also hobbies that she enjoyed. She lovingly created many hand crafted heirlooms that her family and loved ones will cherish for generations.
As a daughter, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, wife, or friend, Charlotte was always attentive to others’ needs and wants. She was a great cook, and a kindred caretaker, quick to sacrifice, and extremely giving of her time and gifts. Her smile and laugh were comforting. Her heart was big. Charlotte loved this life. Her unwavering and unconditional love touched all who knew her.
Charlotte will be deeply missed by her husband, Fred Papineau; mother, Audrey Smith; sister, Renee (George) Reece; brother Jim (Darla) Smith; sons, Darren Hampson and Brian (Peggy) Ward; daughters, Marsha Magee, Michelle Anderson and Jodi (Rusty) Summers; grandchildren, Emily Anderson, Dan (Megan) Anderson, Jamie Boumont, Logan Boumont, Brittany (Ross) Romdalvik, Jared Summers, Courtney Summers, Carley (Mark) Potter, Whitney Ward, and Hunter Ward; great-grandchildren, Blaike Ghelhoff, Reece Williams, Ella Turner, Michael Boumont, Layton Romdalvik, and numerous other family members and friends.
Charlotte was preceded in death by her father, James Smith and brother, Gene Smith.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. on July 7 at the Waldheim Lutheran Church, Kathryn, N.D. Internment at the Waldheim Lutheran Church Cemetery will follow.
