The Kamiah Chamber Board of Directors recently chose Fred and Judy Mercer as the recipients of the Outstanding Community Service Award. This award goes to those who have invested much time and energy into the community.
For 40 years of basketball camps, teaching, coaching, and other community service and paying it forward, the Kamiah Chamber of Commerce thanks the Mercers and others who practice servant leadership.
“It’s really nice,” commented Judy about the news of their award.
“Everything we’ve done has been pretty much as a team, we’ve been married for 53 years,” said Fred. “Just being associated with the chamber; I’m so proud of this community because there’s so many people that just step up with different activities and celebrations, and different groups. The Kiwanis has so many things they do, the Chamber has their activities, and the tribe has their celebrations they do. We’ve just been fortunate to be invited to take part of some of those activities. I think we really enjoy them,” added Fred.
As a person who keeps relatively active, Fred is looking forward to having more time to enjoy things that his busy schedule couldn’t accommodate before. “It’s hard to keep up with,” said Judy of her husband’s full lifestyle.
The couple was recently honored at the Kamiah Chamber board meeting for their many years of service to the community.
“If you see them during Barbecue Days, please thank them for all they have done, they have made many small impacts that lead to great things in the end,” said Chamber President Christine McNall.
