Do you have your FREE solar eclipse glasses yet? They are available now at the library while supplies last. Also, be aware that safe eclipse glasses should have a special rating printed on them and many frauds are flooding the market, especially online. However, according to the American Astronomical Society, “just seeing the ISO logo or a label claiming ISO 12312-2 certification isn’t good enough. You need to know that the product comes from a reputable manufacturer or one of their authorized dealers.” Don’t take the chance of damaging your eyes with the wrong glasses on Aug. 21. Stop by the library first and be ready for the eclipse in a little under three weeks! Learn more about viewing the eclipse safety at https://eclipse.aas.org/eye-safety/iso-certification. We will be opening early that day (Aug. 21) and have eclipse activities planned.
Thanks to Terry D. and Judy B. for finishing up some of our fleece tie blankets left over from the end of our Summer Reading Program (SRP). We have 3-4 blankets left to finish and we invite the public to come in and help us with these (all ages welcome, but motor skills are required). Even just 10 minutes would make a difference. Once completed, these blankets will go to Project Linus, which provides blankets to children in need as part of our SRP theme, Build a Better World. Learn more at www.projectlinus.org.
Every child who brings in their SRP log or who attended at least one in-branch program this year can pick up a goody bag at the library as our way of saying thanks for participating. Teens and adults have until the end of August to turn in Bingo cards. Prizes will be gift certificates to local merchants.
Maker Camp wraps up this Friday with a bunch of building kit opportunities (Engino, Qubits, and GoldieBlox Craft-Struction) from 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. at Kamiah Elementary for kids attending their Summer Food Service Program. Don’t forget – you will be entered to win a prize if you fill out one of our single-page surveys if you attended at least one week of Maker Camp. We have books, (2) Makey Makey GOs, some silicone Lego molds and a circuit sticker kit to give away to survey respondents. Contact the library at 935-0428 or email@example.com for more information. Thanks to everyone who attended – it was a fun way to get out in the community and we plan to do more events like this. Check out the fun photos on our Facebook page!
Each week at Maker Camp we had a book giveaway just for signing in and many of the winners have not yet claimed their free book. These winners can come in and pick out a free book anytime: Jaleta, Anthyna, Lydia, Savana, Anna, Nevaya, Teralyn, Alexia, August, Maria and Solomon.
