Lewis-Clark State College 30th Annual- Native American Awareness Week, “Leading a Legacy: Another 30 Years” will continue through this week March 13–17. Thursday, March 16 the day will begin at 9 a.m. with “Tribal Leaders Panel” presented by Chief Allan, Coeur ‘Alene; Dr. Mary Jane Miles, Nez Perce Tribal Chairwoman; and Modesta Minthorn, Confederted Tribe of the Umatilla Reservation, Education Manager. 10:30 a.m. will be “Protecting the Environment and the No DAPL Movement” presented by Allen Pinkham, Dr. Renee Holt, Dan Nanamkin and Samantha White Temple. At 12 p.m. will be “Creating a System of Change- Nez Perce Women’s Outreach Programs” with Karee Picard. Beginning at 1:30 p.m. will be “Nominating the Rapid River Traditional Cultural Property to the National Register of Historic Places” presented by Amy Canfield; Nakia Williamson and Tribal Elders. The Friendship Banquet will from 6–9 p.m. with the presentation of the NAAW Lifetime Achievement Award, the “Issac Wilson Memorial Scholarship” and other scholarships. Friday will be the LCSC Powwow beginning at 7 p.m. at the ACC Gym.
Kub Nation Warriors in their new jersey’s won their 7th championship of the season last weekend at the March Mania tournament. The girl’s tenacious defense pitched two shutouts and only allowed 11 points scored on them in four games (Colfax, St. John-Endicott, and Davenport)! Including games against Missoula and Kalispel at the Missoula Roundball tournament the previous weekend. The girls last six games against 5th grade girls they have only allowed 16 points total with a score of 200-16! Talk about defense! This weekend at the St. Patrick’s Day Youth Basketball here in Kamiah, the girls will play against all 6th grade teams! Congratulations Kub Nation Warriors and Good luck this weekend! You ROCK!
March 30-31 will be Youth Horseback Riding Clinic at the Teweepuu Center in Orofino from 10 a.m.–3 p.m. Youth are welcome to come participate in a horseback riding clinic to learn about the Nez Perce horses, how to care for a horse and the safety of horseback riding. This is a FREE clinic for youth. Lunch will be provided. Youth age 12–18 years old are invited to attend. A signed waiver is required prior to participation. Youth are encouraged to wear pants, close-toe shoes, jacket and a positive outlook! Safety helmets will be provided. To register contact Alexis Coomer at the Teweepuu Center, (208) 476-7407.
Thursday, March 16 will be the NPTEC Candidates Meet & Greet at the Orofino Teweepuu Center beginning at 5:30 p.m. with potluck dinner. Donations of food, desserts, table service and water will greatly appreciated. For more information contact Moderator, Dallon Wheeler.
