We are nearly four months in Donald Trump’s first term and the administration that he says is running like a “fine tuned machine” seems more like it’s limping along on four broken wheels. But perhaps I’m being unfair. A few things have in fact come out of Washington so far.
Mr. Trump continues to pour out late night tweets like a middle schooler who doesn’t have the courage to confront those who don’t agree with him face to face. And all of them, like the most recent about the former President bugging Trump Tower, have absolutely no basis in fact. How gullible does he think the American people are? I guess that’s a bumb question, he did after all manage to steal the election.
Trump is also trying to shove his version of a new medical insurance plan down our throats. Most experts seem to agree all it will do is cause upwards of 10 million people to lose the health coverage they now have and won’t do anything for the people who need it most. That is the elderly and those at the low end of the income scale. However, the insurance companies will be able to raise rates, so they will be happy.
What else have they managed to do? Oh yes, the new head of the EPA has started rolling back environmental standards because he doesn’t believe human activity has any impact on the environment. This despite the fact that almost every environmental scientist will strongly disagree with him on that. So it looks like big business can go back fouling the air and water like in the old days. We certainly wouldn’t want those pesky regulations to get in the way of huge profits.
The only way Donald Trump can make America great is to impeach himself so he can be replaced by someone with maturity, wisdom and diplomacy to be a world leader.
